Person with different academic qualifications:
a) Master degree / PgD in land surveying related subjects –
1 year post academic experience in Engineering surveyor or GIS,
Professional Interview,
b) Bachelor Degree in land surveying related subjects –
Associate member with 1 year experience OR,
2 years post academic experience as Engineering surveyor, and,
Submit project report approved by board of examiner,
Professional interview
c) Higher Diploma in land surveying related subjects –
Associate member with 1 year experience OR,
3 years post academic experience as Engineering surveyor, and,
Submit project report approved by board of examiner,
Professional interview
d) Higher Certificate in land surveying related subjects –
Associate member with 1 year experience OR,
5 years post academic experience as Engineering surveyor, and,
Submit project report approved by board of examiner,

e) Direct Entry –
For applicant who holds recognized professional membership –
Member of HKIS – LSD (Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors,Land Survey Division)
Member of CICES – GE (Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors, Geomatics)
Member of RICS – Geomatics (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, Geomatics)
RPS (LS) HK (Registered Professional Surveyors)(Land Survey Division)
3.5) Fellow
a) By application –
An eminent person in the industry, invited by the Council of Management

4: Detailed CV
The detailed CV is an opportunity to demonstrate your knowledge, understanding, range of skills and experience on the basis of a whole career description. It should include colleges and universities attended, qualifications gained, as well as a whole career description. This should include period not in employment or employed in non or semi-related fields. The detailed CV for this route should be 800 - 1000 words.
5: Standard of experience report:
Applicant must submit an experience report with 1200 – 2500 words, which shows his/her contribution to a project, difficulties encountered in the project, appropriate solution to each difficulties and personal improvement or enhancement in engineering survey knowledge/skill through the project.
The project should not have taken place more than 5 years. The applicants should demonstrate their ability to solve the problem in the project by the experience report.
The experience report is not an introduction to a construction project or an operation menu of a new technique. Applicants should indicate their responsibilities in the project clearly. The most importance is that the applicants should demonstrate their achievement of high standard of professional in engineering survey industry.
The experience project report should demonstrate clearly that the applicant fulfilled the competence.
6: Membership review interview
Before the commencement of the review interview, the submitted document by applicant should be checked by the membership interview panel. If all documents have been checked as fulfil the Member grade requirement, the review interview would be arranged.
The review interview is scheduled:
a: applicant introduces the project described in experience report,
b: examiners ask questions based on applicant’s CV and experience report,
c: examiners ask questions related to engineering survey industry,
d: examiners ask questions related to professional bodies in Hong Kong.
Each interview is considered to be arranged not exceeded 30 mins. Basically, 2-3 examiners should be on the panel in each interview.
7: Competence
Applicant MUST demonstrate they have fulfilled the competence requirement in the project report and the professional interview.
Competence:
a) General Competence
Understanding of the institution, and the role of a professional
in engineering survey industry
– Applicant should demonstrate the understanding of role of institution and professional surveyor in engineering survey industry.
Managing resources in both manpower and equipment
– demonstrate the solid experience in manage manpower and familiar with calibration procedure of survey equipment. Understand the relationship between calibration of equipment and data outputs.
Team working
– demonstrate the knowledge of concept and behavior of team working Decision making and critical thinking
– demonstrate the ability to solve the problem and constraints in survey work, especially can consider the alternative solution.
Leadership
– demonstrate fully understanding the importance of leadership skills and the responsibility of a leader in engineering survey industry.
Communication effectively in writing and verbally
– demonstrate the ability in communicate and present the survey result to other parties, understand the conflict avoidance, negotiation skills and effective verbal and written techniques applied in different situations.
Understanding the importance of safety in construction industry
– demonstrate the knowledge and concerns in carry out the engineering survey with safety awareness, avoid the occurrence of accident.
b) Engineering Survey Competence
Engineering survey knowledge
– familiar with methodology, instrument use, project requirement. Manage the design information and as-built data, setting out techniques in different situation and limitation. Demonstrate the ability to provide professional advice to the construction project in planning and problem solving.
Geometric principles
– knowledge in the definition of coordinate system, projection, datums. Demonstrate the experience in using the application of GNSS (Static, RTK), understand the advantage and limitation of the technology.
Spatial Data management
– knowledge in data extraction, transformation and computation, able to manage and analysis the result. Understand the specification of data format for different parties.
Appreciation of engineering survey technique
– planning of appropriate control networks, alternative methods for setting out or record survey, independent check and latest technology development in engineering survey. Demonstrate the knowledge in data adjustment and provide the advice in alternative method.

- Ordinary certificate in land surveying related subjects OR,
- Minimum 3 years experiences as assistant surveyor
3.3) Associate
- Person graduated in Bachelor Degree, Higher Diploma, Higher Certificate, Diploma or equivalent in land surveying related subjects OR,
- Minimum 10 years experiences as assistant surveyor.
3.4) Member
Person with different academic qualifications:
