President's view 20240316
The misty spring mist seems to reflect the current economic situation in Hong Kong. As long as the goal is clear, there is no fear of losing direction on the road. The HKIES Council has been tirelessly following up on industry issues accumulated over the past few years, including:
1) The issue of extending the industry classification of Registered Specialist Trade Contractors Scheme (RSTCS) revised by the Construction Industry Council (CIC) has affected the business operations of many surveying companies and reflects the council's lack of understanding of the surveying and leveling industries. The Council has sent a letter to report the issue and is actively following up with CIC.
2) New technologies and innovative professions and businesses, such as Building Information Modeling (BIM), should have been good for social development, but in the actual implementation process, it is easy to overlook the role of traditional professions. For example, in engineering contracts, the terms related to BIM data collection (3D digital survey) completely ignore the role that professional surveyors should play, which has caused many side effects on data quality and supervision. In view of this, the Council will actively follow up with the Works Bureau.
3) To carry out external promotion activities, in addition to meeting and exchanging ideas with the visiting FIG President in Hong Kong, the Council will also sent representatives to Qingdao for industry exchanges and visits.
There are many affairs, and we need the support and participation of all members. We look forward to your joining.
